IGES Supports Revisions to Hayama Town Green Basic Plan

Announcement

IGES provided support for revisions to the Hayama Town Green Basic Plan in March 2026, concerning the preservation and promotion of green spaces in Hayama Town (Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan), where IGES Headquarters is located.

To gain a better understanding of the current state and challenges related to green spaces, Zhen Jin (IGES Research Manager) contributed to the revisions by applying mapping and analysis using geographic information system (GIS) based on survey data from satellites and drones, combined with AI-driven analytical methods to calculate Hayama’s green coverage rate—the proportion of an area covered by vegetation.

Driving local climate action forward, IGES has taken several opportunities to work in partnership with Hayama Town to strengthen its environmental policies. From shaping the Hayama Town Green Basic Plan (2022-2030) with scientific expertise to delivering data-driven insights on carbon absorption and renewable energy potential for the Global Warming Countermeasures Implementation Plan (2025–2030), IGES continues to play a key role in building a more sustainable future for the local area.
